Upon leaving the wolf’s body, Siddhartha felt a sense of
liberation. It was his difficulty with the wolf that made it possible for him
to stop eating only shengzhi, and to reconnect with what he had learned from
his root teacher, whereupon his entire body is pervaded with a joy he has not
known for many years.
Being unexpectedly swallowed by the wolf resulted in his
hearing the wolf speak for the first time. After nearly losing his life in the
jaws of the wolf, it’s as if he has been reborn and set out on an inconceivable
pilgrimage.
Along the way, the wolf forced Siddhartha to open his
eyes. Looking back, he realizes that wandering is not just about seeing the
face of the world with his own eyes. Good and evil are not fixed entities
readily visible to the human eye. Good and evil intertwined leaped into
Siddhartha's soul.
Finally, his endless wandering has borne fruit.
Who wouldn't know it's a wolf?
Siddhartha roared as if he wanted the whole world to hear
him.
