實情 The Truth of the Matter

例如;

(半寄後語;

The Truth of the Matter

(For reference)

Hello everyone,

A question from yesterday’s Tainan study club:

How do we judge whether Buddhist scriptures are authentic?

Banji replied:

Scholars have already provided all the evidence they can.

The rest must be confirmed through your own experience.

For example:

Some claim that even when ill,

they can travel abroad and keep enjoying life—

as if they could go on until death.

But here is the truth:

They never describe the pain when illness strikes,

nor how they handle it.

Is a peaceful death really so easy?

If you witness it in person, you will know—

even dying is not easy.

This is not about religion.

It is something I have personally seen.

Even with advanced medical care in Taiwan,

many cannot achieve a peaceful end.

Yet people still believe in “traveling happily until death.”

The real issue is the condition of the body—

something they avoid discussing.

Only when you or your loved ones fall ill

will you understand the reality.

Even traveling while sick requires physical strength.

That is the truth.

But who writes about the truth?

Only those who have endured suffering.

Master Banji

(Postscript by Banji:

The Saṃyukta Āgama is widely recognized by scholars around the world as being among the closest records of the Buddha’s original teachings.

In fact, the authenticity of the scriptures is something we can examine and discuss for ourselves.

If there are any passages you would like to explore, feel free to bring them to the Tainan study group for discussion.)
