Tree Burials and Sea Burials
I would like to explain something important to my readers.
Tree burials and sea burials are becoming popular these days. But a funeral is not necessarily complete just because the ashes have been scattered.
In Chinese culture, we have traditions of worshipping and remembering the dead.
After someone dies, if the soul still exists, its energy does not disappear.
The soul may still be used to being around people. It may still want the company of others.
With tree burials and sea burials, the soul may feel like a wandering spirit, alone with no one to turn to.
Just now, someone who deeply respects me said, “I will repay your kindness in my next life.” He said he could not bear to imagine being all alone at the tree burial site.
I had just helped him with the problem of becoming a wandering spirit.
(Fortunately, we had a connection from our past karma.)
Tree burials and sea burials are fine. But please consider setting up a memorial tablet so that family members can continue to worship and remember the deceased.
I have noticed that in Western cultures, people visit cemeteries and bring flowers to the dead. Even this simple act can comfort the deceased and show that they have not been forgotten.
Spiritual practice is difficult because people do not realize how strongly they are attached to their bodies and souls.
Think about it: Do we not spend every minute and every second taking care of ourselves, making plans for ourselves, and managing our own lives?
At the NanZen Study club, I often say:
You can practice giving, even donating your organs. But first, you need to understand how attached you are to yourself and how much control you feel you have over your own body.
Get to know yourself better before making such decisions.
These are my thoughts for your reference.

A Story Following Madam Zhao Bao's Facebook Comment
After seeing Madam Zhao Bao's comment on Facebook, I decided to write down what happened.
When I thought back, it felt like a long time ago. But when I checked the date, I realized it had happened only in April 2026!
At that time, Sister Wen Yu sent me a message on LINE to tell me that Mr. Chen Chao-Bao, a well-known Taiwanese painter, had passed away.
That same day, I went to Taipei with Fang Chun, the Executive Director of the NanZen Foundation, to pay our respects.
I also told Sister Wen Yu, “Teacher Chao-Bao seems to be doing fine. Please don't worry.”
Two days after the end of the seventh lunar month, known in Chinese tradition as Ghost Month, I suddenly sensed that Teacher Chao-Bao had come to see me.
He told me that he had not received any food during the entire month and was very hungry.
He had undergone a tree burial. I had already dealt with two or three cases where tree burials had not gone well, so I could understand how he felt.
I was worried because I did not know how to tell his wife, Sister Wen Yu.
Just then, Sister Wen Yu left a comment on NanZen's Facebook page.
Teacher Chao-Bao seemed very anxious and urged me to tell her.
I immediately contacted Sister Wen Yu on LINE.
She asked me, “We set up a memorial tablet for him and made offerings during Ghost Month. Did he not receive them?”
I explained that perhaps the ritual to guide and help the deceased had not worked. That might be why he had not received the offerings.
That very day, Sister Wen Yu went to the tree burial site to make offerings to Teacher Chao-Bao.
Yesterday, on the 14th, she had just arranged for his memorial tablet to be placed in a temple. Today, he came to thank me!
He really startled me.
May Teacher Chao-Bao rest in peace.
