1 Ignorance And Illusion

Ignorance And Illusion

Greetings, friends of NanZen!

A disciple asked of “All is ignorance and illusion” in Buddhism.

I replied that according to the Agama Sutra, the Buddha discussed merely ignorance, i.e. lack of knowledge. It is later generations that mention ‘the big dream of ignorance’,

The term "big dream" will distort the criteria of spiritual practice.

Buddhism is a religious philosophy equipped with well-structured theories and approaches to spiritual practice.

Every word to be added needs to be fully explained about its origins and effects. It relates to the success of Buddhist Practice.

Strictly speaking, how does such a sacred thing have anything to do with dreaming?

The view ‘waking up from a big dream’ never mentions or explains clearly how to be enlightened.

What’s more, some people who are not clear of ignorance add "beginningless" to ignorance, and make up the term “beginningless ignorance”.

This term causes ignorance to be more distant and Buddhist Practice to become frustrating!

Buddhists must identify such evil views that has misinterpreted Buddhism.

I find in my own practice that "ignorance" can be overcome in the process of cultivating virtuous roots. Why?

Because virtuous roots must survive the test of conflicts.

We can’t claim ourselves virtuous people merely because we have made some donations! (Ha ha)

When confronting many issues of right/wrong, good /evil, the conflict of virtuous roots will appear.

When a wise man is not led by his own ignorance (i.e. emotions) and desires, and then moves forward to a bright and virtuous world, he has actually overcome ignorance by surviving conflicts, modifying himself and solving problems!
